What are you reading?

A year or so ago I decided to start reading.  Not that I didn't read before, I just didn't find 'reading' enjoyable...at all.  The reason I made this one of my New Year's Resolutions was simple...every woman I aspired to be more like read...a LOT.  Therefore I too was going to read...a LOT.

It started with a book I thought I should be reading. I had a comfy chair, a glass of water...and then 4 pages into the first book I decided to take a nap.

I quickly realized 2 things about my reading style:
1. I an not a 'sit down and read' kind of gal
2. I need a book with a real story to take me away, let my brain relax

With that revelation, I moved on to "Confessions of a Shopaholic"...no, it isn't an autobiography. Then that went into "Shopaholic has a sister, moves to Manhattan, gets married, has a baby....." Yes, I did enjoy this series very much.

Well, 27 books later I have to say that I do enjoy a good story, and I seem to have an affinity for books about European women. Who knew!  And yes, I seem to enjoy books with some kind of fashion-ey undertone. Shocking.

But my favorite book currently is THE HELP...which is not fashion-ey, or European.

Oh my word.  This book moved me.  Many times I would be in the middle of a really good part, and it would (seriously) set off the tone of my entire day.  For a period of time, it is all I could talk about (sorry friends!).  Really, you should read this.

But right now, I am reading A VINTAGE AFFAIR.  So far so good!

WATER FOR ELEPHANTS is next on my list. I think it is going to make me cry.

So, what are you reading?

I also loved the Help. It was my favorite book from last year. Water for Elephants was great too!

I'm reading "A Candle in the Darkness" right now -- it's about slavery and the abolition movement. It's really good!
